Presentation
Mexican pianist and composer Diego Sánchez-Villa presents a representative sample of the two largest countries in Latin America. Mexico and Brazil share multiple points of contact from both a historical and cultural perspective: a strong colonial past, a growing cultural presence in the world, and deep roots in non-European traditions within their cultural expressions. The program for this concert highlights works composed during the last twenty years, already well into the 21st century, with a strong emphasis on experimental languages that move away from faithful imitation and direct references.
The concert is a partnership between the Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo Tom Jobim and the Mexican publishing house Sur – editores de música contemporánea, which has published some of the scores featured in the program.
