Program note
This work, winner of the first edition of the Premio Sur de Música Nueva Latinoamericana, is based on Periférica Blvd. (2004), a novel by Bolivian author Adolfo Cárdenas Franco, particularly its chapter “Sueño de Reyes.” The chapter presents an improbable songbook of barely outlined melodies, suspended between urban myth and popular hallucination. Each of the six movements draws on a dance form—carnavalito, morenada, taquirari—which, in the piano, dissolves into gesture, resonance, and texture. Rather than illustrating the novel, the music evokes its threshold between reality and dream, transforming folkloric elements into distant echoes and rhythmic shadows.
The title Periférica suggests a perspective from the margins, where memory and invention converge, and the piano becomes a space between periphery and center.
