Program note
Composed in 2017, this is one of the earliest compositions in the catalog of the Mexican composer and performer Aquiles Lázaro, and to date it remains his only orchestral score. Its three-part formal design anticipates, in the central section, the subsequent direction of Lázaro’s work, characterized by a contemplative mode of listening in which parameters such as regular rhythm or melody disappear.
The title refers to the Guerrero Chimalli, a monumental sculpture erected in 2014 in one of the most marginalized urban areas of Mexico.
The score was composed with the support of the Cátedra Extraordinaria Arturo Márquez de Composición Musical, a program of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
