Presentation
Mexican pianist of Cuban origin Ana Gabriela Fernández offers a dialogue between two generations of Mexican composers. The piano version of Danzón No. 2, a major work of the Latin American repertoire, forms the culminating point of the first half of the program, which tends toward impressionistic sonorities and elements drawn from popular music. The second half presents the explorations of a younger generation—born toward the end of the twentieth century—within which the composer and singer Diana Syrse, based in Paris, stands out.
The concert, hosted by the Fondation de la Maison du Mexique, is a collaboration between Ana Gabriela Fernández and Sur – contemporary music publishers, which has published three of the works included in the program.
